Breakthrough Victoria today joined the Deputy Premier and Minister for Medical Research The Hon. Ben Carroll who, on World Clinical Trials Day, officially opened Cerulea Clinical Trials . This world-leading eye research centre is breaking ground on treatments for preventing and curing blindness, thanks to Breakthrough Victoria’s $10 million investment.

WORLD-CLASS FACILITIES AND PATIENT-CENTRIC DESIGN
Thanks to BV’s investment Cerulea Clinical Trials is setting a new standard in clinical research facilities, prioritizing patient experience with a modern, relaxing lounge area and an assistance dog station for trial participants and their carers.
Part of the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), the centre boasts state-of-the-art imaging suites, vision lanes, laser rooms, dark rooms, and a comprehensive eye care telehealth service, ensuring top-tier support and convenience for all involved.

RESEARCH AND GLOBAL COLLABORATION
As a local and international research hub, Cerulea will drive forward research in gene and cell therapy, attracting global clinical trials to be conducted within Australia. This not only positions Victoria as a leader in medical research but also ensures that groundbreaking treatments are developed and tested domestically.
IMPACT AND FUTURE PROSPECTS
Over the next decade, Cerulea Clinical Trials is expected to provide approximately 2,500 patients with access to new therapies, offering renewed hope and improved quality of life.
The centre will also create around 50 new jobs, significantly contributing to both healthcare and economic sectors in Victoria.
